Maria Lankinen

Maria obtained her Msc degree in clinical nutrition from University of Kuopio in 2006. During her PhD project (2007-2011), titled metabolomics in dietary interventions, she worked in the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and in the University of Eastern Finland. After that she has continued research in the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition in the University of Eastern Finland studying effects of diet on fatty acids, lipid and glucose metabolism, risk of type 2 diabetes and low grade inflammation. She has applied mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance based metabolomics in her studies. She is also interested in gene-diet interactions. She visited the Wheelock lab during June-August 2016 and May-July 2019. During these periods, she performed lipid mediator profiling in plasma samples from dietary intervention studies where effects of fish, alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid supplementation were studied.
